Movie Review: I Am Legend
Francis Lawrence’s I Am Legend (2007), starring multi-talented award-winning actor Will Smith (Independence Day, Pursuit of Happyness, Men In Black) is a creepy, relatively believable view of one man’s survival after the disastrous results of a scientific mistake. This movie is based on Richard Matheson’s novel of the same name.
SPOILER SYNOPSIS: In the year 2012, an airborne virus — derived from what was thought to be a cancer cure — has killed over 90% of the population of New York City (and the world). Many have become primitive, bloodthirsty zombies, known as “The Infected.” However, after three years, immune scientist Robert Neville’s (Smith) life has been boiled down to two undeniable truths: he has no human companionship and he’s surrounded by an animalistic enemy.
Neville and his German Shepherd Sam spend their days hunting, foraging, and pretending to have a normal life among the carefully placed mannequins in his favorite music store and other spots. He captures one of the Infected (the latest in a long line) and experiments to find a cure, as the vicious, night-dwelling zombies grow more desperate for food.
