In my year here, I’ve seen a lot of Medium writers promote this first line construction concept. Tougher than creating a title? Totally agree!

Surprising, immersive, or curious? Not always. While I do strive for one of those attention-grabbers when crafting a first line, I’ve seen many that are straightforward factual, perhaps further explaining the title. Others have been attempts at humor (some successful, others not).
