I Have This in Common with a Favorite Celebrity
I was really jazzed about the opportunity to meet David Hyde Pierce, best known as multiple award-winning character Niles Crane on the TV show Frasier. Even if you’ve never seen the show, you’ve probably seen him elsewhere on TV, in a movie, or possibly on the live stage. I love his dry wit, deadpan delivery, and educated demeanor, and it’s refreshing to see intelligent comedy done well, amid all the Hollywood hoopla. Many other actors have these same abilities of course, but Mr. Pierce stands out, in my opinion.
Here’s how I met him, and how I later realized what we have in common.

Sometime in the mid-2000’s, my then-roommate’s girlfriend volunteered at a local health organization, which was hosting a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. They advertised it as kind of a Hawaiian-themed cocktail party with food, drinks, and prizes for the best Hawaiian outfit. But there was more to it — David Hyde Pierce would be there!
